โรงเรียนพ(ล)บค่ำ #3: Creative/Cultural Resistance การต่อต้านเชิงสร้างสรรค์/การต่อต้านเชิงวัฒนธรรม: เวิร์กช็อปเชิงยุทธวิธีสำหรับศิลปินและนักกิจกรรม

The Reading Room และ เครือข่ายพลเมืองเน็ต โดยการสนับสนุนของมูลนิธิไฮน์ริค เบิลล์ เสนอโครงการ “โรงเรียนพ(ล)บค่ำ” แลกเปลี่ยนมุมมองวัฒนธรรมใหม่ โดยเฉพาะประเด็นเสรีภาพในการแสดงออก ทรัพย์สินทางปัญญา สื่อใหม่ ขบวนการทางสังคม และมีเดียอาร์ต เพื่อร่วมทำความเข้าใจกับความเปลี่ยนแปลงทางสังคมและวัฒนธรรมร่วมสมัย

ชั้นเรียนที่ 3 นี้จะเป็นการแลกเปลี่ยนเรื่อง “การต่อต้านเชิงสร้างสรรค์/การต่อต้านเชิงวัฒนธรรม: เวิร์กช็อปเชิงยุทธวิธีสำหรับศิลปินและนักกิจกรรม” ทำไมเผด็จการต่างๆ ในโลกจึงต้องเซ็นเซอร์ศิลปะ ไม่ว่าจะเป็นในรูปแบบ ละครเวที ภาพยนตร์ หรือดนตรี เหตุผลก็คือ ศิลปวัฒนธรรมมีอำนาจในการกระตุ้นจินตนาการ สื่อสารความจริง และทำให้คนลุกขึ้นมาเคลื่อนไหวทำสิ่งต่างๆ

น่าเสียดายที่ในโลกของนักกิจกรรม เรามักเห็นการเคลื่อนไหวที่ยึดติดอยู่กับรูปแบบเดิมๆ เช่น การชุมนุม หรือการล่ารายชื่อ ซึ่งมักไม่สร้างผลกระทบในวงกว้างอย่างที่คนเหล่านั้นต้องการ เวิร์คช็อปครั้งนี้ ต้องการนำศิลปินและนักกิจกรรมมาพบกัน เพื่อสร้างบทสนทนาเกี่ยวกับการสร้างยุทธวิธีที่สร้างสรรค์ที่มีความจำเป็นเป็นอย่างยิ่ง

เวิร์คช็อปนี้จะมุ่งเน้นไปที่จุดร่วมระหว่างศิลปวัฒธรรม และยุทธวิธีการต่อต้านโดยไม่ใช้ความรุนแรง (หรือ direct action) เพื่อเป็นการเตรียมกลยุทธและแรงบันดาลใจในการพัฒนายุทธวิธีใหม่และสร้างสรรค์ สำหรับนักกิจกรรมและศิลปิน

ประเด็นพูดคุยในชั้นเรียน:

  • แนะนำแนวคิดสำคัญเกี่ยวกับการต่อต้านโดยไม่ใช้ความรุนแรง รวมถึงพูดคุยในประเด็น “dilemma action”
  • ทฤษฏีเบื้องหลังอำนาจของการต่อต้าน ผ่านรูปแบบการใช้ศิลปวัฒนธรรม
  • อธิบายยุทธวิธีการต่อต้านอย่างสร้างสรรค์ พร้อมกรณีศึกษาจากแคมเปญต่อต้านการคอรัปชั่น บริษัทข้ามชาติ และอำนาจเผด็จการต่างๆ จากประเทศต่างๆทั่วโลก

    • กิจกรรมที่ผู้เข้าร่วมชั้นเรียน/เวิร์คช็อปครั้งนี้ จะได้ร่วมกันคิดและแข่งขันกันเป็นทีม โดยใช้ข้อมูลความรู้ที่ได้รับจากชั้นเรียนในการพัฒนายุทธวิธีการต่อต้านอย่างสร้างสรรค์ ในสถานการณ์สมมติที่วิทยากรกำหนดขี้น

    เกรียงศักดิ์ ธีระโกวิทขจร เป็นผู้อำนวยการสร้างและพิธีกรรายการ Capitalism 101 ซึ่งเป็นรายการออนไลน์เกี่ยวกับผลกระทบของทุนนิยมในประเทศไทย เกรียงศักดิ์เป็นนักเขียน ที่เน้นประเด็นเสรีนิยมใหม่ (neo-liberalism) ความก้าวหน้า (development) และแรงงาน (labor) และเป็นอาจารย์ประจำวิทยาลัยสหวิทยาการ มหาวิทยาลัยธรรมศาสตร์ ศูนย์ลำปาง

    Night School #3: Creative/Cultural Resistance: A Tactical Workshop for Artists and Activists with Kriangsak Teerakowitkajorn & Emily Hong

    At The Reading Room, Silom 19

    The Reading Room and Thai Netizen Network, with supports from Heinrich Böll Foundation, presents “Night School,” an informal classroom for the exchange of ideas and perspectives on contemporary sociocultural issues.

    The topic for Class 3 is Creative/Cultural Resistance: A Tactical Workshop for Artists and Activists. There’s a reason why some of the most restrictive and dictatorial regimes censor the arts (e.g. theater, films, music). Art and culture have the power to activate the imagination, speak truth to power, and move people to action.

    Unfortunately, in the activist world, we often see people sticking to the same tactics (e.g. rallies and petitions), and wondering why there’s no impact. Our workshop aims to bring together artists and activists for a much needed tactical discussion.

    The workshop will explore the intersection of arts and culture with strategic nonviolent action (aka direct action) in order to provide some tools and inspiration for activists and artists to develop powerful and innovative new tactics.

    Topics for class:

  • An introduction to some of the most important principles of nonviolent civil resistance, including a discussion of the “dilemma action.”
  • The theory behind the power of using culture and art for protest
  • Explanations of creative tactics, with case studies from campaigns against corruption, corporations, and dictatorships from around the world.
  • An activity in which artists and activists will compete in teams to use their new knowledge to develop the most creative tactics for given movement/campaign scenarios

    Workshop facilitators:

    Kriangsak Teerakowitkajorn is the producer and host of Capitalism 101, a web-based hard-talk program on the impacts of capitalism in Thailand. Kriangsak is a writer who focuses on issues of neo-liberalism, development, and labor, and a lecturer at the College of Interdisciplinary Studies at Thammasat University.

    Emily Hong is a Seoul-born and New York-raised activist, trainer, and writer who currently serves as Asia Training Associate for Minority Rights Group International and Training Adviser to Community Organizing and Rights Education (CORE), a joint program of 14 youth organizations based on the Thai-Burma border.

    Emily and Kriangsak directed and produced the short film Occupy Everywhere, focusing on the consensus-building strategies of Occupy Wall Street.

    + Classroom format focusing on exchange of ideas, opinions, and information between speakers and participators in an informal environment.
